On Type 81 rifles the obsolete spike-shaped non-detachable bayonet, preferred by the PLA before, is also replaced with the more "modern" detachable knife-bayonet. Most probably this was required to leave the significant portion of the muzzle area of the barrel unobstructed, which is required for launching of rifle grenades.

Type 81 bayonets have a reddish-brown handle and are designed for the Type 81 rifle. The Type 81 rifle looks similar to an AK, but functions differently. The Type 81 bayonet doesn't fit on any AK. The Type 85 closely follows the style of the Russian M1983 and is designed for the QBZ-87 rifle, which was never adopted.

I havent seen one of those since 1990 - 1992 , at a local gun show and I think he said it was a rare Chinese Type 81 bayonet, he wanted around $75 , I remember it had a green scabbard and the strap had the star like yours has. I thought that was kind of high back then with all the Chinese imports still available nice find G
